MISSION
The ARC of Butte County is committed to securing for all people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work, and play. The ARC is further committed to reducing the incidence and limiting the consequences of developmental disabilities through education, information, advocacy, and the support of families, friends, and community.
50 YEARS OF HOPE AND SERVICE
For the past decade, The ARC of Butte County has raised the expectations of people with disabilities and their families, offering high-quality programs and services.
Since 1954, The ARC of Butte County has been devoted to the establishment of community-based services for local people with developmental disabilities and their families. The ARC is a community-based, non-profit organization helping to serve these needs.
In the early years of the organization, it was necessary to create basic services for children and adults. ARC members were instrumental in the establishment of the first special education classes and sheltering workshops in Butte County. Following the creation of these fundamental services, The ARC helped to develop the local Special Olympics, created a day activity center for adults who were severely disabled, began an infant stimulation program, and provided training to prepare adults with developmental disabilities for independent living.
Throughout the years, our top priority has always been to offer information and support to parents and children with developmental and/or other disabling conditions. We are continuously working to reduce the ignorance and prejudice that threatens to handicap our citizens with disabilities more than any psychological challenge.
